Daily Action

Day 1: Absent on Day 1 due to illness.

Day 2:

An action that I would incorporate into my teaching practice is allowing student give a reflection of their learning more often. It could be as simple as how they felt about their learning and how they think they could learn better. This will help me understand how each child feels about their learning and refine my teaching styles in ways to meet individual needs of my students.

Day 3:

One action I will start implementing from today is self-reflection. I need to reflect on my teaching practices over the years and identify areas of my weaknesses and improve on that. I will have to set goals to be able to achieve this. One thing i would like to work on is reflecting on my relationships with both students and my colleagues and find ways to improve on that.

Day 4:

Showing genuine interest in the welfare of the students is something I will be more conscious of from now. Due to behavioral issues in my grade level, it has been very difficult for educators to connect with students especially being lenient with them after giving directions and they still don't follow.  For instances, ensuring that students get their basic needs like refilling water bottle and using the bathroom before classes commences. This was prompted by an incident that happened today after recess in the Grade 4 boys where I was assigned to substitute.

Day 5:
I will encourage students to ask questions by not using certain phrases. For instance, I usually say.. "do you have any question?" This phrase might make students who are not comfortable speaking up in class to shy away from asking questions. I would rather say "would you like to share your thought or concerns?" Perhaps, that will help in making them feel comfortable to take questions.

Day 6:
Today, during the class talk, I felt guilty when it was illustrated how some teachers uses negative approach when a child scores low in an assessment. I have learned to frame my feedback in a positive and constructive manner. I will avoid using discouraging words but rather build their confidence by assuring them that they can do better.

Day 7:
To set a clear learning objective is an action that I will be very intentional about from now  on. Even though, I've always been doing that in the past but it's clear to me now that objectives has to be tailored down to meeting diverse needs of learners. It makes it easier to access students progress and to give them meaning feedback.
